Smudge is owned by a professionally certified educator with years of experience teaching art (plus a crazy passion for it!). This is why we have a special place in our hearts for schools and love creating with students of all ages! Since opening in January of 2014, Smudge has won the 2014 Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce & BDC Business of the Year Award in New Venture/New Business, 2015 Best of the Best in Best Place to Take the Kids, 2015 Chinook Entrepreneur Challenge in the General Stream category, and 2017 Best of the Best in Best Place to Take the Kids. Our weekly and summer classes have very small maximums, which means lots of one-on-one attention for our young artists. Plus, we take care of all of the details. There is no need to worry if you've bought the right paint or have the right brush because we supply you with all of the art materials you will need to create some amazing art! We believe you deserve a quality art education in delivery, materials and atmosphere, and we provide you with all of that.
Because of all this, we do not provide discounts specifically for schools (although there are discounts already in place for a certain number of artists). Schools are groups that utilize the same quality materials and receive the same extraordinary instruction as all of our groups do. Also, Smudge is a unique small business, not a large franchise, created specifically for the Lethbridge and area communities by someone just like you. We have had the honour of creating with school groups in-studio and out-of-studio, and have always had rave reviews (see below). School groups can choose from one of our pre-packaged functions (list below). If what you're looking for is not there, please contact us to discuss as we can create a specific school-based lesson for your entire school to participate in! The best part is you can have faith that your artists are receiving a proper art education from a professionally accredited teacher.

We request that school groups give as much notice as possible and even up to a month notice depending on the lesson being created. Please contact owner, operator and professional educator, Paije Ottoson, for availability.
Just below, please find a letter from Ms. Shari Rogerson, Principal at Dorothy Dalgliesh School, regarding their experience of Smudge. Below that, you'll find a video (created by the University of Lethbridge in 2015) to learn more about where Smudge came from.
