When are you open?
We can be working around the clock, but we do have assigned Office Hours. You can find our Office hours under the Contact Us Page.

How do I sign up?
Classes, workshops and parties do require purchase with registration, however Open Studio does not. To register, we'd love it if you could come on down and visit usbut you may also register online. If you are looking to have a super fun art party or group activity at Smudge, head to our Groups & Parties page for more info on that. Online purchases are processed through PayPal, but you do not need a PayPal account - you would then just need a credit card. If you register online, please ensure you review and complete the registration form that you receive in your automatic e-receipt that is sent from our store. Please note that we do not hold spots without purchases being made in full.

Do I have to register?
For everything except Open Studio, YES!  We don't want anyone to show up and be disappointed because there isn't a space waiting for them. If you register for a class, workshop or party and do not show up, there is no refund.

What is your cancellation policy?
That depends what you've registered for. Please find all of our terms, conditions and policies here. 

Why do you change your class calendar?
We love having artists create at Smudge, but our classes do not always fit everyone's schedule. That's why we change it up - to give everyone a chance to fit some time for art into their busy lives. 

What forms of payment do you take?
In-studio we accept cash, Interac debit, Visa, MasterCard and Discover, while online purchases are processed via PayPal (see above note). We also accept E-Transfer with very specific transfer instructions - please be sure to read these instructions on the product purchase page prior to sending us money (we may not know who to match your purchase to without this information). We do not accept any foreign currency (that includes USA cash ... we are not in the United States), cheques of any kind (even from businesses or organizations), nor are we able to take payment over the telephone. Purchases can be made online or in-studio.

Why do you require pre-payment? 
We require pre-payment because we have limited seating and need to know how much we are preparing for the class, workshop or event. When registering please be sure to read the entire registration form (for online purchases, this registration form is sent in your e-receipt). What happens when I get to class?
If your class is at our studio, please come in and find us to let us know you are there. Then hang up your coat (if you haven't already), and help yourself to water, coffee, hot chocolate or tea, if you would like. Find an apron, then have a seat and relax! As soon as everyone arrives, we will begin class. If your class is outside of our studio, please check in with us when you arriveand we will direct you from there.

What should I wear?
Whatever you like! Keep in mind that you are attending an Art class (yep ... we use real paint!) so it's possible to get stains on your clothes even if you are wearing an apron.  We use acrylic paint that can generally be removed if you head straight for water when the splatter happens.  However, if it dries on the cloth, it is usually permanent.  We suggest, comfortable clothes that aren't your favourite outfit, and, for in-studio, you may want to bring your favourite slippers as we ask artists to take off messy shoes (and it can get messy here in Southern Alberta).

Where can I park?
Parking is street parking only, but we have a lovely bright pedestrian walk right in front of Smudge, so you can park on either side of 3rd Ave S. Please do not park in our neighbours' parking lots as they are private and you will be towed. Please help us remain on good terms with our neighbours. 

What should I bring to create?
Nothing - just yourself! We supply you with everything you need to get a little messy and have a lot of fun!

What if I'm not artistic?
That's completely fine! As you know, we don't believe in colouring in-between the lines, which pretty much says it all. Everyone is an artist in their own right, so come with an open mind about your experience and your outcome. Just come with a great attitude and a desire to create. And, honestly, just relax and have fun!

What if I'm an experienced artist?
That's great! Feel free to go off on your own creative journey in the class if you would prefer, rather than following the guide. Again, just come with a great attitude and a desire to create. We just ask that you are respectful of our processes and are mindful of those who are wanting to learn.

Do you have gift cards?
Yes, what a fun gift!  You can purchase one in-studio. Gift cards are for a value amount only and not product or service specific. Gift cards cannot be redeemed online, but are fully redeemable in-studio.

May I bring other people to Smudge who are not participants in the class or party to watch or sit in?
No. We have a strict occupancy regulation. Please look on our Classes page for classes that the extra person or sibling would like to sign up for. Our classroom activities and teaching styles are tailored to be age-appropriate.

What happens during "Open Studio" time?
This is when the studio is available for you to drop in and be creative by painting pottery, a canvas masterpiece, or even wine or beer glasses. We will supply you with all you with all of your supplies, a beautiful studio to paint in, and, best of all, we do all the clean up! All you have to worry about is what to create! Please check out the Open Studio page for times and details.

Do I have to take my art home that day?
If possible, it is recommended that you take it with you when you leave, however much of the art that is created has to be dried, fired or cured. If this is the case, we will gladly hold on to your art for up to two weeks from the creation date. But, because we are not a storage facility, any art remaining after two weeks will be discarded without reminder (so we won't call to remind you or to let you know when it will be discarded). Please remember to pick up your art within two weeks! Check Office Hours before coming down.

Do you do fundraising events or donations?
Yes, we do assist non-profit organizations with fundraising - you can find application information here. Smudge no longer provides donated items for individual fundraising events (i.e.: silent auctions, draws, etc.).
